Skin Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, Micro-Needling or Dermapen, is offered at our Perth clinic.
Skin needling has become a popular treatment for smoothing wrinkles, improving texture, reducing scarring and stretch marks.
This treatment is less invasive than other treatments and the healing time is much quicker.
This is a skin renewal technique that restores the healthy youthful appearance back into your skin. The process of skin needling involves applying small rollers that around 200 very fine surgical needs over the skin in a criss-cross motion.
Produces similar results to treatments like microdermabrasion, lasers and deep chemical peels, however, this is much less aggressive on the skin and does not require the removal of any layers of skin.
Less invasive than other treatments, the healing time is much quicker and there are no post-treatment sensitivities to the unavoidable Australian sun.
Skin needling is also one of the few skin therapies that are suitable for treating many skin types and can be used to treat the fragile skin around the eyes, mouth, hands and on the neck and décolletage.
Skin needling is used to encourage collagen and elastin production, smoothen skin, scar reduction or stretch marks.
The concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns or other abrasions. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, the body removes the damaged collagen, elastin and other structures which are then replaced by new components. Skin needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro-injuries which trigger new collagen syntheses, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin.
The micro-needles penetrate the top layers of the skin and create pinpoint injuries in the deeper layers. This triggers the body’s natural wound healing response. As a result, new collagen and elastin are formed to reduce wrinkle depth, increase skin elasticity and improve the appearance of scars and other skin flaws.
Preparation for skin needling is extremely important, please follow the preparation techniques below. Your technician will discuss this with you prior to your appointment date. 2 weeks before your appointment Morning and Evening: Use stable vitamin C, Vitamin A and growth factor serum (this enhances the process of collagen production). Continue with the usual cleansing, moisturising and sun protection routine.
24 hours before your treatment Please stop using the following products:
Day 1 – The skin may be affected by light to moderate redness, sensitivity to touch, itchiness and tightness
Day 2 – The skin redness subsides or is greatly diminished
Day 3 – The treated skin area heals and there is barely any evidence the treatment has taken place
Immediately after the treatment, the appropriate serums should be applied liberally. Leave overnight to maximise absorption In the morning cleanse with a mild cleanser Pat to dry only, do not rub After the skin has completely healed – makeup may be used ( often 24 hours after procedure). Applying makeup on broken skin poses a certain risk of inflammation, bacterial infection and hyperpigmentation AHA and BHA can be used to soften and superficially resurface the epidermis but only after the skin has totally recovered from the skin needling procedure A normal skin regime may be resumed after the skin has completely healed
