There are many topical creams or ointments available to help fight off the occasional blemish or breakout. However, a cream or ointment alone for someone with problematic, inflammatory acne will only treat the surface layer of the skin, leaving the bacteria that causes acne in the deeper layers.
IPL acts by photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment of acne. Simply put, the bacteria that causes acne is very sensitive to light – in particular, the wavelengths that correspond with the colours of blue and red light. Therefore the use of IPL devices has been developed and specialised to use either blue or red light for the treatment of inflammatory acne.
At a cellular level, the process that occurs involves the reaction between the targeted bacteria and its exposure to the appropriate light source. The result is the selective destruction of the acne causing bacteria. The reaction occurs rapidly and results usually seen after just a couple of treatments.
Acne treatment using IPL Skin rejuvenation is a great alternative to prescription medications. Many of the medications designed to treat acne have long lists of side effects, and are notorious for making you ultra sensitive to sunlight.
Clearer, healthier looking skin that is free from acne-causing bacteria without using harsh medication and topical treatments.
Direct sunlight should be avoided if possible. The use of SPF 30+ or higher sunscreen is recommended and should be applied daily following your treatments prior to any sun exposure. A basic skin care regimen at home should be used alongside IPL acne treatments to help keep the skin clean and free of bacteria.

How many treatments required? Depending on what results you are looking to accomplish, you will likely need to schedule multiple IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments. It is recommended for best results that individual treatments are scheduled approximately 4 weeks apart. While the treatments are quick, the overall process may take some time before your skin is completely clear of acne.
What does IPL acne treatment feel like? Is it painful? During your skin rejuvenation treatment, you will feel a slight zap, like the snapping of an elastic band on the skin with each time your technician fires the IPL handpiece. After this initial zap, some clients may experience a warming sensation which should dissipate shortly after your treatment.
Am I a candidate for IPL Skin Rejuvenation for Acne? It is advised that clients taking acne medication may need to wait until they cease their medication before they begin their Skin Rejuvenation treatments for acne. This medication is very strong and can increase the skin’s sensitivity to light.
